The Ivy, which was created under the guidance of Bob Ludwig of Gateway Mastering Studios, has now become the two channel reference upon which dozens of Grammy Award-winning albums have been based. Using the knowledge gained from this technological process, we at EgglestonWorks set out to build the perfect speaker. Our ultimate goal? Music without compromise.

In the quest to develop the world's finest speaker systems, EgglestonWorks is proud to present the all-new Savoy. An all-new operating system has been designed to maximize the transparency and imaging capabilities of this new system. The new operating system consists of 1) an all-new driver alignment, 2) a new radiation pattern, and 3) an all-new crossover design.

Driver Alignment:
The larger chassis of the Savoy allowed us to double up on subwoofer and midwoofer drivers, enabling bass response flat below 20Hz. Four 12" woofers are driven in a compound push/push pair-configuration, wherein the inner woofer maintains a constant air load on the woofer facing into the room. This operating principle is a hallmark of EgglestonWorks systems and allows extremely accurate bass response to be reproduced. The Savoy uses two pairs of these world-class woofers in a highly damped enclosure using pressure-release technology and Acousta-Stuf, a manmade fiber superior in its ability to reduce reflection distortion inside the enclosure. The four 12" woofers operate from 16Hz to 100Hz to provide subwoofer-type bass response; yet do not color the midrange area due to the extremely low crossover point chosen for maximum midrange transparency.

From 100Hz to 400Hz, twin 6" midbass drivers take over in their own compound pressure-release chamber directly above the woofers. Since the midbass frequency range is difficult to reproduce with large woofers due to transient response sluggishness, we opted to use twin 6" midbass drivers with 3" voice coils to enable extremely fast transient response speed and clarity. In addition, the pressure-release cabinet design eliminates the back-pressure distortion found in sealed systems and the "boom" caused by bass reflex designs. This new midbass system is incredibly fast and "open," enabling natural sounding transparency in a most difficult area.

Radiation Pattern:
A concentric arrayed pair of 6? midrange drivers with 3? voice coils reproduces midrange frequencies from 400Hz to 2kHz for extreme accuracy and waveform fidelity. The pressure-release cabinet loading allows the drivers to operate without cabinet induced resonances, further increasing transparency. Since the concentric array flanks the tweeter above and below, the image focus is outstanding due to the point-source radiation pattern. The finest tweeter in the world, handmade in Denmark reproduces the treble range from 2kHz up to 40kHz. This tweeter's ability to handle 1,000-watt impulses without distortion or compression enables the Savoy to reproduce high frequency signals with extreme accuracy and fidelity. The heavy duty voice coil and large magnet combined with the transmission-line rear chamber allows incredible detail to be resolved, yet the distortion is so low as to be completely inaudible.

Crossover Design:
In order to combine the nine drivers per speaker into a coherent point source, a highly specialized crossover was designed by Albert Von Schweikert using computerized optimization combined with live versus speaker ABX testing. The resulting circuits include technical features not found in conventional designs and include Time Optimization, Impedance Correction, and Frequency Equalization. The circuits, although complex, are extremely transparent due to the circuit architecture and the parts quality, including the finest foil and vapor deposited capacitors, Perfect Lay inductors, and metal film resistors. The highest quality cable and binding posts allow complete fidelity to the signal being fed the crossover and drivers.

The Savoy has an incredible frequency range of 16Hz to 40kHz (-6dB) combined with a dynamic range surpassing that of the CD standard due to the large number of efficient drivers. When factoring in the extremely low distortion figures and pinpoint imaging characteristics, the Savoy can be considered to be the state-of-the art in speaker technology.
